Landscape Support Service Green Roof Maintenance Program

Throughout the green roof industry there is a common myth that green roofs are a few step process that ends with installation. Green roofs are a part of a roofing system that is designed to function in a specific way. The green roof should function based on its designed performance characteristics and the roofing systems should properly function based on its design criteria. At LSS we have a committed green roof installation and inspection team with backgrounds in Horticulture, Roofing and Green Roofing. The following items below detail some of the points of inspection during a typical visit.

Vegetative Free Zones – It is imperative that non vegetative areas are kept clean to insure that the roof functions as it was designed. Unwanted plantings and debris can clog drains and prevent flow of water to the drains themselves. Periodic inspections and cleaning of the vegetative free areas are performed under our green roof maintenance plan.
Roof Drains are susceptible to foreign debris. Periodic inspections can prevent unwanted debris from clogging the drains allowing the roof to drain as it is intended to do. During our inspection cycles drains are inspected and cleaned needed to ensure that these drains perform as intended.

Green Roof Vegetation Unwanted or dead vegetative debris can pose a problem for the proper function of a green roofs systems performance.  During the inspection cycle unwanted species and debris is removed.
